Hmmmm

So my exam went OK even the public health bit which I thought was going to be a nightmare. Been feeling quite tired lately but just found out I need to up my thyroxine dosage so that should help!!!

As a post exam and Dave late birthday treat we went for an amazing (and expensive) meal at Pollen St Social.
Dave has wanted to go there for ages and I promised him we would. They had horseradish sauce made into "snow" in liquid nitrogen which was then sprinkled over one course.
We had the tasting menu - 8 courses but Dave still had room for extra duck fat chips! My little fatty!
We had so much fun we have decided to make it our little Christmas tradition and treat to ourselves to do it the week before Christmas every year!!
This is a picture of the Turbot, carrot puree, cauliflower thing......
Just the best food we have ever eaten!
Last night we went to a TV filming of duck quacks don't echo, a new show for sky one presented by Lee Mack. Dave had a really good time, was a shame I was so tired but now I know it was thyroidy I feel better about that!
Had my follow up with the rheumatologist today, he feels the bone scan does not show arthritis which is good news! It's just I don't feel relief for some reason. Maybe cos I'm knackered. I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow.
He thinks maybe I have this thing called hemachromatosis???? I suppose I have very mixed feelings as both myself and the rheumatologist thought it was psoriatic arthritis from my history and symptoms - he even asked if I got mouth ulcers and allergy to sun all of which I have along with psoriasis 10 years ago and joint swelling and pain etc. You  gear yourself up for it in terms of treatment and a plan and finally knowing whats going on. And then you don't have it.
Being genetically tested for it so we shall see. Just wish I wasn't in pain.......... Results probably after Christmas.
And here is a picture of gorgeous Walt to cheer us up!

Seeing the rheumatologist

Saw the doc today, what a weirdo - couldn't hear what he was saying half the time and he did not explain any of the tests to me which is unusual as he knew I was a medical student.

Had a load of blood tests and have to have an isotope bonescan where they look at areas of inflammation in the body 4 hours after injecting me with some radioactive shit. FUN.

Have decided to not even think about it until after my exam on monday.

Had a lovely morning with the mother shopping and lady wot lunching and now about to endure a revision lecture. Wahooooooo - cannot wait untill the holidays.

MRI results

Normal normal normal - good in terms of no synovial overgrowth. But bad as not just physio is going to fix this......

Have an appointment with the rheumatologist tomorrow to see what they want to do about it. Treatment options etc

Brought it all home when in my appointment with the dean today he said what about in your practical exams could you kneel down, and if my knees are swollen then I can't!!

Got signed off at my GP last week so don't think I'll go in tomorrow as the swelling is quite bad - cold makes it worse?

Gotmy panda christmas jumper on, good times :-)

First Post - what a day!!

So, even though I am a 3rd year medic, I had a little mishap where I failed an anatomy exam (Twice) and had to retake 2nd year last year. I had thyroid problems and chronic migraines 3-4 days out of every week so I did have a little bit of help failing it.
Putting that all behind me I have now just finished my first firm at Newham hospital where the fear of failing has been pushing me to do well AKA be a massive geek.

And the results are in, today I got told I got the highest mark in the MET3B specific exam (a renal and endocrine module) and due to my performance over the last 3 months I have been put forward for a commendation (which less then 5% of students get!). To say i'm chuffed is an understatement, I nearly cried when I was told.

To put things into perspective, this time last year I was in hospital having my tonsils out (long overdue op) after a week of being in Moorfields Eye Hospita; due to 3 ulcers in one eye (antibiotics every hour day and night for 2 days - poor Dave thank you for helping me). and having a fall (possibly had a few too many, maybe). being taken to A and E so they could inspect my bump and then every time I went to the loo interrogating my brother and his girlfriend and I quote "what drugs has she taken her heart rate can't be that high if she hasn't taken drugs". even though I told them I had a thyroid problem! 4 hours later thyroid blood tests come back abnormal and they let me go.

Well just recently I have been quite healthy (I have graves disease, ITP and IgA deficiency amongst my collection of autoimmune problems), and after having my tonsils out have been touch wood avoiding any major illness. HaHA NO! says my body, time for something new. My knees and fingers have randomly been swelling on and off all summer. But knee swelling is nothing new for me (dislocation problems blah blah blah). So off I trot to the orthopedic consultant after arthritis blood tests come back negative, thinking he is going to pack me off for physio again. Well, he goes and drops the bomb shell he thinks its a seronegative arthritis, as if that even exists! Had an MRI last week which he says will show nothing - get the results tomorrow. And my knee has swollen again for the first time in a month. Was almost hoping it had gone away but clearly not.

So referral to a rheumatologist at the age of 25 for me, huzzah.
Oh well, it is clearly not affecting my brain so all I can do is carry on. And hopefully smash my end of module exam on Monday :-).
