So, even though I am a 3rd year medic, I had a little mishap where I failed an anatomy exam (Twice) and had to retake 2nd year last year. I had thyroid problems and chronic migraines 3-4 days out of every week so I did have a little bit of help failing it.
Putting that all behind me I have now just finished my first firm at Newham hospital where the fear of failing has been pushing me to do well AKA be a massive geek.
And the results are in, today I got told I got the highest mark in the MET3B specific exam (a renal and endocrine module) and due to my performance over the last 3 months I have been put forward for a commendation (which less then 5% of students get!). To say i'm chuffed is an understatement, I nearly cried when I was told.
To put things into perspective, this time last year I was in hospital having my tonsils out (long overdue op) after a week of being in Moorfields Eye Hospita; due to 3 ulcers in one eye (antibiotics every hour day and night for 2 days - poor Dave thank you for helping me). and having a fall (possibly had a few too many, maybe). being taken to A and E so they could inspect my bump and then every time I went to the loo interrogating my brother and his girlfriend and I quote "what drugs has she taken her heart rate can't be that high if she hasn't taken drugs". even though I told them I had a thyroid problem! 4 hours later thyroid blood tests come back abnormal and they let me go.
Well just recently I have been quite healthy (I have graves disease, ITP and IgA deficiency amongst my collection of autoimmune problems), and after having my tonsils out have been touch wood avoiding any major illness. HaHA NO! says my body, time for something new. My knees and fingers have randomly been swelling on and off all summer. But knee swelling is nothing new for me (dislocation problems blah blah blah). So off I trot to the orthopedic consultant after arthritis blood tests come back negative, thinking he is going to pack me off for physio again. Well, he goes and drops the bomb shell he thinks its a seronegative arthritis, as if that even exists! Had an MRI last week which he says will show nothing - get the results tomorrow. And my knee has swollen again for the first time in a month. Was almost hoping it had gone away but clearly not.
So referral to a rheumatologist at the age of 25 for me, huzzah.
Oh well, it is clearly not affecting my brain so all I can do is carry on. And hopefully smash my end of module exam on Monday :-).
